COMPRESSOR AND PUMP SR SILENCER
SR Silencers for Roots type Blowers, Vacuum Pumps, Water Ring and Vane type compressors
SCOPE
SR silencers are designed to efficiently reduce suction and exhaust noises of Roots type blowers, vacuum pumps and water ring or vane type rotary compressors.
These silencers have been perfected in the laboratory by means of analogical research.
RANGE
Four types of compressor and pump SR Silencer are available, classified in three categories below:
- SRa type silencer for suction and exhaust of air or dry gases.
- SRv and SRd type silencers for exhaust of air or dry gases.
- SRdS type silencers or separator silencers of vacuum pumps with air or gas loaded with liquid particles. This is the case of water ring vacuum pumps or water injection Roots type blowers.
The nominal diameter of inlet and outlet piping defines the denomination of the silencers.
CONSTRUCTION
SR silencers are entirely constructed in welded steel. A coat of zinc chromate rustproof paint has been applied to the exterior surfaces of these silencers and the interior is protected by a coat of aluminium paint.
Maximum admissible pressure is 1 effective bar.

ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
The direction of flow off gases must be respected. It is shown by an arrow on the housing of the silencer.
In order to obtain the correct acoustical efficiency the inlet (machine side) of SRd and SRdS silencers should be fitted with piping of a maximum length equivalent to three times the diameter.
For high attenuations it is recommended that a phonic insulation of the primary part of the silencers (volume) and of the upstream piping be provided, in order to prevent the transparency effect.
SRa, SRv and SRd silencers can be placed in either a horizontal or a vertical position, depending on the space available and the layout of the piping. The SRdS silencer should always be placed in a vertical position.
It is sometimes advisable to separate the silencer from the machine by means of a flexible in order to prevent the transmission of vibrations.
SRa Silencers
DESCRIPTION AND PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
This silencer is of the < absorption > type. Inlet and outlet piping is axial. The gas flows through an annular space surrounded by an absorptive material in long fibers of a high acoustical efficiency and held in position and protected by a perforated sheet.

SRV SILENCERS
DESCRIPTION AND PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
Compressor and pump SR silencer based on the combined principle of resonance and absorption of the sound wave. It allows a high attenuation to be obtained in all frequency bands and because of this it is especially recommended for exhaust of vacuum pumps.
Radial inlet takes place in a volume covered by acoustical material with perforated sheet (resonance part) extended by the absorption part.
Outlet piping is axial.

SRD SILENCERS
DESCRIPTION AND PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
This type of silencer allows a high attenuation of noise to be obtained in both low and high frequencies, by combining the reactive and dissipative principles. The axial or lateral inlet takes place in the reactive element made up of two volumes connected by a Venturi device.
This element is completed by the absorption part. The outlet of the silencer is axial.

SRdS SILENCERS
DESCRIPTION AND PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
This silencer allows the same acoustical attenuation as SRd silencers to be obtained. It is equipped with the same sound-proofing devices. Its lateral tangential inlet in the first volume ensures the separation of liquid particles by a gyratory movement of gases. The liquid is evacuated by a large sized drain that must be connected to the evacuation piping.
It is imperative that the separator silencer be installed in a vertical position. Upon request it can be fitted with standard sup porting legs.
Outlet piping is axial.

SRdS separator silencers are designed for exhaust of vacuum pumps conveying air or gas loaded with liquid particles, as is the case of vacuum pumps with water ring. SRdS silencers can also be used for Roots type blowers operating with water injection.
